Fubon Fuzhou Headquarters

The Fubon Haixi Headquarters stands beside the Min River in Taijiang District, Fuzhou. Its elegant, restrained and dynamic form has become a new landmark on the city's financial street. Approximately 120 meters tall, the building expresses a contemporary corporate identity through a simple yet varied architectural language. Its defining feature is a progressively curved main facade combined with rhythmically arranged vertical sunshades. Like a rising sail, the curved elevation conveys forward movement through changing light and shadow. At night, carefully positioned lighting creates a shimmering effect reminiscent of reflections on the Min River. This distinctive design also provides daytime shading and reduces energy use, combining appearance and function.

Design Concept and Features

Setting Sail: Inspired by a ship's sails, the design expresses Fuzhou's pioneering spirit as a core city of the Haixi region. The tower's glass curtain wall curves progressively and changes direction vertically to form an elegant sail-like profile. The facade also incorporates staggered vertical sunshades, whose rhythmic arrangement evokes waves and wind while providing effective solar protection. These elements follow the changing facade curvature, giving the building a varied appearance from different viewpoints and in different light, like a flowing composition on the skyline.

Urban Context and Environmental Integration: Beside the Min River, the site called for careful consideration of river views and urban axes. The curved main facade faces the waterfront to maximize views and establish a visual relationship with Gushan Bridge and the administrative center across the river. The podium connects smoothly with surrounding streets, while an open ground-level plaza and planting welcome pedestrians and soften the building's scale. Night lighting highlights the curved outline and the rhythm of the sunshades, complementing the riverside setting.

Leadfu's One-Stop Integrated Services

For this project, we delivered services from architectural concept development through curtain wall execution. To address the technical challenges of the progressively curved curtain wall, our team joined the design analysis early, optimizing glass curvature and the framing system to balance appearance and structural safety. During procurement, we selected high-performance triple-pane Low-E insulating glass and custom sunshades to meet the all-glass curtain wall's requirements for views and energy efficiency. During construction, our specialists closely controlled unit installation tolerances and concealed lighting positions, integrating the curtain wall and lighting systems for a strong day-and-night appearance. Our coordinated service translated the creative design into a high-quality completed building.

Spatial Planning and Facade Design

  • Integrated Functions:The 28-story Fubon Fuzhou Headquarters contains Grade A offices, meeting facilities and commercial amenities. Its waterfront position offers outstanding views. An open ground-floor plaza and pedestrian connections integrate the site with city life. As a new base in the Haixi financial center, the building supports smart offices and collaboration while providing public places for neighboring communities to relax and gather.
  • Energy-Efficient Facade:The panoramic glass curtain wall incorporates triple-pane Low-E tempered insulating glass. This high-performance enclosure combines river and city views with excellent thermal insulation, meeting international corporate expectations for efficiency and comfort. Vertical sunshades flow along the curved elevation, providing shade and emphasizing the tower's vertical lines. From a distance, the building resembles a vessel moving through the waves. At night, concealed linear lighting illuminates the lower edges of the sunshades, creating a luminous tower reflected in the river.
  • Sustainability and Innovation:The project combines efficient air conditioning, rainwater reuse and electric-vehicle charging with passive energy savings through its form. The curved facade reduces east-west solar exposure, while vertical greenery and a reflective roof reduce the urban heat-island effect. LEED Gold certification was targeted from the outset and ultimately achieved, establishing a green, intelligent landmark on Fuzhou's financial street.

With its sail-inspired facade and energy-efficient design, the Fubon Haixi Headquarters stands out among conventional commercial buildings. It brings together corporate identity, the city's waterfront character and environmental principles in a landmark symbolizing progress and sustainable development.
