Our Culture

No Hexavalent Chromium. Non-Toxic, Sustainable Facades for Our Cities and Their People.

At SKLF, we believe every curtain wall coating process should demonstrate a commitment to human health, environmental sustainability and international safety standards. Hexavalent chromium (Cr⁶⁺) has been classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Long-term exposure causes lung cancer, nasal cancer, skin ulcers and respiratory diseases, while leaving persistent contamination in soil and water.

“Hexavalent chromium is a carcinogen and is identified by California as its second most potent toxic air pollutant, with toxicity five hundred times that of diesel exhaust.”
— California Air Resources Board (CARB)

SKLF uses chromium-free pretreatment and highly weather-resistant powder coatings throughout its operations. These methods offer corrosion and weather resistance equal to or better than conventional hexavalent chromium treatments, without leaving carcinogenic residues or releasing toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs). From governments progressively banning applications of hexavalent chromium—including the European Union, California, China, Japan and Taiwan—to green building certifications promoting non-toxic materials, this international consensus demonstrates that the age of hexavalent chromium is coming to an end; the future belongs to environmentally responsible, safe, chromium-free technologies. Our mission is to translate this responsibility and commitment into every curtain wall project, allowing cities and their people to thrive in comfortable, safe and sustainable environments.

SKLF's commitment is simple:
“We never use pretreatments or coatings containing hexavalent chromium, because no architectural beauty is worth compromising health and safety.”
